Hi, just wondered if you could provide contact details for this helpful dealer... Sorry to be parochial but, for those of us who live Down Under, UK prices (often) look incredibly cheap compared to what we have to pay here, so if the Americans can do better... I often look at vlvworld.com but they won't ship overseas! (Just an example of parts prices here - my wife has a little Citroen AX. Price for new driveshaft here is about GBP400. I see it listed on the GSF catalogue for about GBP65...!)

It's not easy keeping cars on the road, but at least we don't have salt in winter so rust repairs are less frequent.

Lastly, should any NZ members read this message, maybe we should try and link up in some way. I know this has probably been tried before, but Volvo enthusiasts are fairly few down here. People are mostly into other types of cars (as I am too!). Thanks, John.

The UK is part of the EU, as is Germany, have not had to pay import tax for a very long time as we are essentially the same country from a trade point of view.

volvo genuine parts prices are different in all countries all over the world. the uk is a lot cheaper than most other countries it seems, from what i get told on a daily basis.

For this reason alone i send parts to people all over the world, and every day of the week i have orders leaving the Uk. Some price difference can be huge. On a small number of occasions I have even supplied parts direct to other Volvo main dealers in other countries

I have even sold items to people in the USA on quite a few occasions, so some of our parts must be cheaper than they can get them, as postage to the USA can be quite high i find, yet its still cheaper for them to get them from here.

@ John Tancredi, I have sold parts to people in NZ, Australia as far as Tasmania, so I am also able to help you if you wish to try us out.

Simon

It seems like we need to check the price comparison on each part we need, so we shouldn't get the idea that all US parts are cheaper.

Living in France I can say without doubt that getting parts shipped in from the UK is far cheaper.
I makes no difference if you are going for OE or copies, Rufe or Brookhouse will be cheaper than French mainstealers. GSF or PFV will beat Oscaro or Mister Auto - even with P&P added most of the time!

Check out Amazon.co.uk against Amazon.fr the same book, for instance will be cheaper from the uk side of the web-site.

Same with zooplus, I order a big sack of dry dog food from their uk site it is delivered from their depot in Germany & is about 15€ cheaper than buying from the French site. How doe's that work LOL.

Also recently on French Fleabay there home page said " Get your purchases from ebay.co.uk profit from the weak sterling" or words to that effect!

Happy shopping

I would try Braydon too - some very good prices on both new and used parts and a very customer focused service

I have modified the email address slightly to help prevent spam

Email: Steve ( at ) braydonmotors.co.uk

Default parts from abroad

I import a lot of stuff from the USA and do pay VAT some of the time there is no duty to pay but if there is it will be around 15 to 20%

If you go to the Customs Web page there is a list of the duty rates and it advises on the amounts you pay and most of the time I save.
