Closed loop mixer system??
Hi,
I'm running my 240 (B230e, K-jet) on an open loop mixer system, made by Bedini (something like that anyway..) and it's been very poorly set up. I'm not going to accuse the system because I'm well aware that anyone with reasonable mechanical knowledge could install the system, but it takes a bit more knowledge and experience to set them up so they don't run like poo.. The throttle response is poor, it backfires from time to time, the power feels quite a way off.. Not ideal. To my mind, my options are to take the car to a pro to have the fuelling set up properly, pay the man and drive home. Or.. ..Spend a comparable amount on upgrading the system with Lambda controlled fueling to make a closed loop mixer system. My thinking is that if I've got to spend the money, then I may as well upgrade. Would I be right in thinking that there's alot less to setting up of a closed loop system such as the one sold by Tinley Tech, because the fuelling is controlled by the magic box and lalalalabamba sensor rather than arsing about with little screws on my vapouriser. Or have I got it all wrong? Thanks in advance Ben |

hi ben you should be able to get the open loop running ok on gas. The closed loop will just improve the ecconomy, and give better throttle response. I actually bought one of those closed loop devices from tinley tech but never got it setup properly, so ive reverted back to open loop, which for my golf gti is ok. Make sure you are using single probe spark plugs also redure the gap. The ignition side of the system needs to be spot on as lpg is difficult to ignite. Its worth renewing the plugs and the dizzy as these are only cheap. As I say you won't necessarily sort your problems out with the closed loop system

Ther is a right way and lots of wrong ways to convert a 240 with K jet. We have had a lot of 240 in recently from all over the country to solve conversion problems with. Have done so many now we have a std set up that works 100% every time.
It is very improtant that all the ignition side is spot on with correct plugs Volvo leads cap and rotor all in good condition. I've not found any other leads that work for ong at all but magnacore may well be ok. The tractor type bedini vapouriser is going to struggle to deliver close to teh correct amounts of fuel through the rev range. The mixer size and position is also quite critiacl. Going ot closed loop is just adding a complication that you dont need. I got almost no improvemnt by going closed loop and had quite a bit of problems with lambda probes. Going closed loop is going to do nothing to solve instalation/engine problems taht you are descibing. |

Thanks guys. I get the impression that the Bedini system is somewhat 'agricultural', and having now had a look at it and adjusting the settings slightly, I can see why. There is no way to get it running perfectly properly right across the rev range. I have improved it slightly with the 'hold it at 3k and play it by ear' method, but ultimately, an upgrade of vapourisor, set up by a pro is going to be my best bet.
