Interesting thread this one............

From day one, I was certain that the halogen lamps on my 2 month old 2.0D SE were too low. Took it to the supplying Volvo dealer who allegedly checked them and said they were fine. Now I was thinking the standard bulbs were useless so changed to Osram Nightbreakers.

Not to be outdone, I set about adjusting them myself with the aid of a brick wall. Tweaked them up as much as I felt safe and then I could see at night.

Just to double check what I'd done, I took the car to my local MOT station and bunged the tester £10 to use his beam aligner. Even after my previous brick wall adjustment, the beams were still low, so the tester and I tweaked them even more.

Result - as good a set up as I'm likely to get without changing to HIDS. Not as good as the Xenons on my Vectra but at least I can now cover the ground safely at night.

What really narks me is that the Volvo stealer said they were fine. What else can I expect them to say with other "problems" or niggles that may crop up?

What you say is correct IF you assume that under normal conditions the lights can be run at their highest setting without causing offence to other drivers, that is certainly not the case on my car.

Once you have had Xennons you never go back.
Had the kit about 2yrs + and transferred it from my previous V70.
Never had a problem at all.
Slight hijack here but what HIDS kit did you go for? Any link you could post up?

One of my colleagues has a C70 and has been taking in to local independant Volvo specialists

Bridgend Volvo Specialists (BVS)

so I thought I would give them a call yesterday and they kindly agreed to check it for me this morning.

They literally had the car for 10 minutes, returned and said that the passenger side light was "Way Out" and they have also adjusted the drivers side "a little"

The best part was that I did not have to drive 30 miles to Swansea for a 10 minute job. Potentially to be told 'no fault found'

Looking forwarded to driving home this evening
oh and they agreed to do this for Free before I made the appointment!!!

result.

I am pleased to say that the headlight adjustment made by BVS has resolved the issue.

This has made a vast improvement and only wish I had taken it to them 3 weeks ago.
