Default Volvo 480 S Fuel Gauge

I have a 480 S with analogue fuel gauge, it has never been the best at registering the amount of fuel in the car, but last week the low fuel light came on, even though the tank is full, does anyone have any ideas please?

probably the circuit board bolted to the rear of the fuel and temp gauges , it controls all aspects of the gauges and decides when to turn the low fuel light on ...

Would be my first bet also. It's a common failure on the 400 series.
