Question Snow Chains

Can you only fit the Volvo chains to a 225/50-17 inch or will other makers eg Rud fit without fouling the suspension etc?

Volvo do not recommend fitting snow chains to this size tyre, however, if you double check the clearance between tyre wall and shock absorber suspension and it is a minimum of 12mm then a set of chains from Brindley chains costing less than £50.00 inc vat and delivery, are a good option.

Looking at a lot of photosd of chains, it seems many of them touch the edge of the alloy rims. Don't think I'd fancy the damage. Either that or buy a set of tatty rims + mud & snow tyres + chains.

The volvo Uk site also lists them for up to 18".

The earlier models had a clearance problem as they also listed the standard snow chains for larger sizes, while the owners handbook says not to fit them. There was some confusion over this, but as a result another style was developed which is not a problem to use, but are a lot more expensive than the standard option.

This is the link to the volvo site showing the "Centrax" style snow chain which are able to be used with no problem.

These retail at £302.00, while we supply them for £247.52 plus £10.00 DHL delivery.

You would need an order reference number from myself in order to get them at this price, if interested please send me an email to frfvolvoparts@gmail.com or send me a pm.

I hope this helps

Simon

i fitted a set of 225/45/17 cooper mud and snow tyres to my S80 auto and it will now go anywhere it's like a 4x4.
i know they should be 225/50/17's but i have informed my insurance company who have no concerns.
they were £90 each but you don't have the hastle of taking them off when you hit a road that has been cleared and having to put them back on when you hit the snow again.
