Angle gear differences - help please!
Hi - I'm urgently looking for some advice regarding the 2 different angle gear drives fitted to the '98 V70 XC's.
The one in my car seems to be the later type, with the smaller output flange that drives the propshaft. The flange on mine is slightly smaller in diameter than the earlier one and also has a raised lip round the edge of the mating surface. The earlier type has a flat face on the flange. I understand that the 2 types are NOT interchangeable without changing the prop and V/C. I have been offered one of the earlier angle gears with the flat flange. My question is, can the flanges be swapped over from one angle drive to the other, or ar there other differences internally? eg. bearings, seals etc. I need a replacement angle gear and can't afford a new/recon one, so I'd really appreciate some help. Many thanks, Matt

I don't see why you could not swap it over, but I think it would be easier to have the flange milled so that they meet correctly then start pulling the unit apart.

Theres a 99 V70 Xc in Greens of skipton, i know the propshaft has gone but it might be worth a call if you need one, 01756 793879.
Failing that i know of a 99 AWD in Guisbrough cleveland.

Thanks pacman - If no one confirms if I can swap the flanges, I'll try giving them a call.

Thanks - it's the one in Lancashire I've been hoping to get. Unfortunately it's the one with the older flange, hence my latest questions.
Cheers, Matt
