The bloke i bought my auto off had another 854 t5 S at the time too he was selling, it seemed very basic interior but had a lot of money spent on it apparently and was insanely quick, it was that lovely blue/green colour with dark grey columbas wheels it was a minter, i would have bought it if i had the extra cash at the time, he may well be on this site as he seemed to buy and sell 850 t5s from Tyldsley in Manchester

The 850 T-5 with the "S" spec is not an early "Turbo", so not rare at all I'm afraid.

Oh right, is the S model a basic spec later car then?

Smile Many thanks...

Thanks to all of you who replied to my initial post. Much appreciated and of great interest. Yes Dunc, my car has the large pipe that comes over the top of the engine - that's the one that came loose during the test drive! Two minute fix and the car drove perfectly afterwards.
Does this mean I have quite a rare car then? And is it therefore worth more than the £850 I'm paying for it? Service history (Volvo 90%) very comprehensive and in very good order inside and out. 3 owners and I've spoken with the last two.
One of them mentioned that the car did use oil if pushed hard (although he was 70 odd!). He said the car used about 2-2.5 litres per 3000m if 'driven enthusiastically'. I would have said a little high, but not too excessive???
Once again thanks to you all! I'm still looking for a 760 Turbo saloon by the way!

if yours is worth £850 mate, I got a steal, i paid £450 for my 94 model, with 12 months MOT on it, so £850 is a bit expensive i feel

this you learn with Volvo's is the spec means nothing. Looking at your pic, you have climate control, heated seats, mine is a top of the range TURBO model, and i only have normal heating controls, not climate control, so you can never say the S is the bottom of the range

Looking at the Trader mate I think you did more than well! A standard 2.0L will make close to a grand. Looking at current prices again I think I did pretty well...and you got away with just paying a deposit! Well done.

I paid just over £800 and mine had just 107k miles on it, so about right.......Bobby just managed to find a bargain (damn you, lol). It does look like the prices of all 850s are starting to rise again, but I've spent too much on mine already so I won't be selling it anytime soon.
