Default C70 2003 Crystal clear lights

Hi Guys,

I replaced the stock S70/V70 lights during the summer and have since found that the newly fitted C70 2003 Crystal clear lights do not have a very good spread of light, i.e. the beam of light generated seems to be quite low in relation to the road. I have tried altering the beam dip angle via the rotary switch on the dashboard but this only makes matters worse.

Have any of you guys noticed this or am I just imagining things?

Regards

Patrick

hi patrick,

i've had clears on the car a while now and i think they are better than the old ones.

although i'm using hids and i've never seen them with normal halogens, have you had them adjusted after fitting???

out of the box mine were set low and needed bringing up quite a bit to get right and even though mine are set a little lower to stop glare from the hids they are still much better than standard.

any mot station will check the beam height for you and sort it for a minimal charge or even free depending on how well you know them ;)

good luck

paul

btw get some hids and do it proper!!! ;)

Hi Paul,

I assumed that the replacement lights were not adjustable.
So I am delighted to hear that they are, I will make an appointment for the car at a local MOT test station and hopefully get them sorted.

Thanks for your advice Paul.

So whats the score with the HIDS? Are these Xenon Lights.
I have a set of factory fitted Xenon's on my Renault Laguna and the improvement over the existing Volvo installation is only marginal.

Do you reckon they are much better? How much do they cost?
How easy are they to fit?

Oops! I had promised myself I would not spend any more money on mods for awhile.

Regards

Patrick

glad to be of help patrick, the new lights ARE adjustable and done very easily in a few minutes, mine were very low when fitted and if i had left them as they were i probably would of had the same problem your having.

hids = xenons and your right a friends audi tt has factory xenons and they are useless compared to the hid kit i've got installed, he gets a better light spread and cutoff but the actual brighness isn't that great even though his factory xenons use 4300k bulbs which are supposed to be brighter and i've got 6000k which are more blue and less bright!!!

fitting hids is the best mod i've done to the car and would definetly recommend it especially with clears. i got mine off ebay, this is risky but as long as you stick with good quality components you should be ok.

depending on make they start at £150-£200 for a good quality h7 6000k kit and they are very easy to fit although it might be better to pull the lamps out again and fit the bulbs first, it took me and my bro a few hours to fit.

check out simons thread on his recent purchase of a hid kit for his 850: http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/dc/dcboa...ng_type=search

easy come - easy go, i think i see if i can finally do a rica before xmas, wife permitting!!! ;)
