Default Volvo 340 panels

Hi,

Im looking for a pair of front wings for my 1990 volvo 340, also rear wheel arch repair panels. Are there any suppliers on the web, or any in the Staffordshire area? I could bodge with filler I guess, but Id prefer the job done properly.

Also, how easy is it to replace the front valance? Im hoping against hope that its a bolt on panel!!

Thankyou.

Tim.

Hi Tim,

I hope you can find the bits that you want. I know that the rear wheel arches are there to be had, I saw some on e-bay recently. A local garage once quoted me £25 for the part, plus £225 labour. That was on a previous 340, so I just cut out the rust and replaced it with filler and aluminium gauze. Looked terrible, but lasted for years!?!

I've looked in the Haynes manual and it just says that 'the front wings and front panel are bolted to the main bodyframe'. I don't know if the valance is part of the front panel. Hope so...

There are lots of knowledgeable people lurking around here, so hopefully you’ll get the help you require.

Oh, and a note to volvo300mania people - Sausage lives!!! Thanks Tim.

Cheers,

Gavin.

The front wings are bolt on. The valance is welded on and will need very careful alignment or the bonnet will not shut.
Rear wheel arches repairs are available. I do have full rear wing for LHS hatch. I also have a number of other panels.
Keith drivesavolvo may be able to help with used wings.

Dont play with sausage too much!

Surely the front valance would not affect the bonnet as its only the panel below the front bumper, unless you mean Id have to cut away the whole of the front of the car to replace it. If thats the case I think just a little filler would have to do, as much as I dislike it. The rust isnt that bad. It will be a tidy daily driver anyway, not concours!

I think perhaps im getting ahead of myself a little. First thing is the MOT. Time to get Jiggy with Mr Miggy and do the two patches that are needed. Fingers crossed nothing "new" will be thrown up. Replacement wings and repaired rear wheelarches are definately on the horizon though.

Tim

P.S im always being told off for playing with my sausage.

The volvo panel was a full front pannel. The front valance its self is available and can be welded in. If you are going to patch it do not forget to cut out all the rust. When all is done give it a good coat of paint.

Owch!

Failed M.O.T on BOTH sills, also part of the passenger side inner sill has crumbled away. Alot more welding than I first anticipated, "iceberg" effect i guess! theres a whole lot more you cant see than you can see.

First time Ive had a close look at a 340 though... Very impressed with the build quality. Nice "thunk" when the doors are closed. Great driving position too!

Do "immaculate" 340s become availiable very often? If so what price range are they?

I paid £25 for my 89 model! I know I got stung it had no key, that set me back £8! !.
Normaly expect to pay a few hundered for a clean car and a bit more for a minter.
No matter what 300 you get you will need to do all the service stuff bushes shocks etc.
I must admit they are hard to find now when you want one.
Is it worth you looking at Ali's car?
Where arbouts are you Tim?

Whos Ali?

Im currently mailing a guy whos selling his 1.7 340 on the 340s for sale forum. Its been resprayed dark metallic blue from white though. Not sure if I like the sound of that, but if the moneys right, and the jobs been done properly then it shouldnt be a problem. Who'd respray a rotten 340??

Stoke-On-Trent isnt a milion miles from me.
Ali is offering a 340 to a good home but it does need welding. See topic below.
I would'nt worry too much about the respray. Just have a good look at the body condition. Mechanical things are simple to sort out.
At the and of the day spend what you fell the car is worth.
