If your methodical and plan the job well with marking all parts with tape and a note you will be fine doing the work by yourself should you have the necessary tools. I have been changing my engine over this and last week luchtimes and tea breaks at work ( an hour or so a day). I am to the point today of just connecting parts in and around the engine for completion and the final run up. I have done this thing before though but this is the first on my car lol. I would go for a complete change for a known running engine and definately drop the subframe. I would raise the rear up on ramps then lift the front over the engine, once dropped on the floor/wheels.

This sounds like it could be a great bash, just need to sort out if we could do it at mine. Would we need the cars next to each other to do the transplant?

I don't have a replacement block yet. I was on the lookout for a donor car to strip and hopefully get the block from so it was affordable for me to pay someone to pop it in. I'm also very happy to alternatively spend that money on plenty of beer + food etc for us

John H is also up for it and i'll see him tomorrow along with Steve (Steve and his 244) so can discuss it with them too

Take out the rads, headlamps and front panel..loads of room to work, driveshafts out, exhaust off and such like then lift the lot out...personally much less agro than subframes and steering etc.Do it over a w/end no worries with all the parts etc
