I would expect buying another Auto box would be a lottery....
Depending on the year of your car i would consider a M59 manual box with a drivers side shaft and if you have a earlier model a M56H would be a good call...although the M56L is often touted, tho i expect a T5 would use up its ratio benefits pretty quickly.....

Its very hard to look into a second hand box, tbh.....
Maybe smell the oil, to ensure it does not smell burned, the colour should be cherry...
Replace the Engine Rear main seal too....

Also look for a part number match, all gearboxes are not equal.

Here's a guy who sells Volvo bits on ebay.
He is based in Southport Lancs and seams a decent guy, He breaks all kinds of Volvo's and has a selection of boxes.

Hi There, I have an AW50 42 LE gearbox for sale on ebay currently if it's any use to you? It worked very well in the car before it was broken for spares (I had the T5 motor for my project!) it's out of a 1995 850 T5 wagon which had 114k on the clock.

£80 for the 'box and £25 to courier it within the UK mainland if you may be interested. Hope you don't mind the shameless parts touting! I'll supply the link if required.

All the best,
Chris.
