RE: Whats this?
As bobcat says that is a crankcase vent into the inlet tract pipe just before the turbo. The electrical connection is not, to my knowledge a sensor, but a small solendoid operated valve that controls the vent down the pipe. If it becomes blocked you get oil blown out of the dip stick and elswhere.
If you fit a proper crankcase breathing system with pot and separator you can disconnect it and do away with the black plastic pot that attaches to the block just below the inlet manifold. A very good and not too expensive mod if you are giving these engines some stick. I can give you a list of what is needed and where to get it. Don.Norchi. www.kalmar-union.com TME engineered software UK distributor. PS. whilst looking arround that area there is a fair bit to be gained by replacing that air box to turbo pipe with the reducing right angled bend by something a bit bigger etc., I can show you what I have done on my own cars in that area. |

RE: Whats this?
would be nice to know how to change the bits.....maybe some pics or an email.
Would the pipe being broken/connection have caused any problems? Regards Iain

Whats this?
Hi all hope you can help anyone know what this pipe is? It is located near the turbo and seems to run under the mainfold. I know it's got a piece of hose pipe on it at the moment (it was snapped clean in half).
Also does anyone know what sensor is located just under it? Mine was disconnected. http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/7152/car9ke.jpg Regards Iain

RE: Whats this?
Ok Guys just to let you all know I've had the pipe replaced along with 2 other small oil lines underneath the manifold. The garage checked the others and though they where fine.
Ohhh Errrr...seems the only one they didn't change had a split right next to the clip holding it on. This caused a MAJOR oil leak! I would recommend anyone who has thier manifold off for any reason that they check and replace these pipes. (price about £20) (Cost of manifold removal 3 hrs work at volvo prices about £180) So i've had my manifold off twice now...work it out, do the maths and replace those pipes! Morral of the story replace the pipes it's not worth the hassel of not doing it! Regards Iain
