Neither to be honest. Why not go for the camskill vredestein or general grabbers option?

And anyone have experience of the Nokian WR versus NRV? Our Conti's have worn out (20K miles), and we're looking to replace. |

I have tried both NRVis and the WRs.
The NRVis were great as normal tyres - by "normal" I mean for use on roads. The Continentals which were the original tyres on my XC90 were more quiet, but they didn't last very long - approx 18 months before I replaced them with the same. Then I bought the NRVis. The NRVis lasted for 2 years. I replaced the NRVis with the Nokian WRs which are marked "M&S", no connection with sensible underwear mind! "M&S" is "Mud and Snow". Nokian wrote in answer to my query and confirmed that they were suitable for year-round use here in the UK. The WRs also have 11mm of tread, whereas normal tyres have only 8mm, and after over a year of use and 14,000 miles they still had 7 - 8 mm left when I sold my car last month. The deeply treaded WR tyres performed excellently in the recent snows, and I suspect they would have been much better than normal tyres "off-road" too had I tried it. Unfortunately, I believe the WRs are no longer produced, having been replaced by WR2s which have only 8mm of tread. My new XC90 which I picked up last Saturday, is fitted with Pirelli P Zeros. I don't know how long they will last. I have already noted quite a bit of road noise from them. Unfortunately, my Executive version only comes with 19" wheels - I did ask if 18" alloys could be fitted instead but was told this was not an option. The choice of replacement tyres is therefore limited. This was the situation when the XC90 first came out because up to then SUVs or off-roaders did not have 18" wheels, so there were very few alternatives to the Contis, and any found were expensive as a result. I note that the WR2s do come in 19", so I'll keep them in mind. Good luck, and post back when you have decided which tyres to go for. |

My Vredstien Wintrack 4 Extreme wear at 1mm per 12,000 miles so should do about 60,000 miles.
I couldn't tell any difference in noise from the Conti's.

The tyre size is 235/65 R17 - The Bridgestones are a 108 V rated XL tyre - so they are good for weight of the car and have a much higher speed / load rating than the xc90 is capable of - just to be safe. |
