Hi. I am new to 400 series ownership but have been given a low mile CD that is unabused but been laid for several years unused. Aside from a good clean and service and some minor body work, the major issue is a non functioning rev counter and temp and fuel gauge. I saw a message on this forum that the latter two were a known weakness although it did not explain what the likely culprit was. The car has the electronic speedo rather than cable drive and is a K reg 1993 manual.
Secondly can anyone recommend a good independent garage for repairs / servicing in and around the Hants / Surrey area and any good breakers who know their Volvos?

Many thanks in adavnce for any pearls of wisdom in my campaign to save at least one unloved Volvo.

The rev counter i believe runs from the alternator, worth having a look around there for loose connections. As for the temp and fuel guages, I recently drew up a post. This involves removing the clocks and opening up the unit then cleaning the brass circuit connectors for the temp/fuel circut board. Very easy done with a little time. I would recommend servicing the engine yourself as its fairly straight forward and will save you money!
