Default DPF removal

Given the really poor mpg my xc90 is giving im looking for reasons. DPF seems to be a culperate, and there seems to be lots of people on other forums removing thiers with great success. Ive seen seat(and therefore the whole vw group) discussions aswell as ford (in the us), PSA(pug and citreon) and bmw. I contacted a local mapper, who said they could remove the dpf part of the map for 100. But they didnt seem to have the straight through pipe to replace. Anyone seen a pipe for sale. Or even better has anyone removed their dpf. Seems to be a good idea.

Mine had poor mpg ~(mid 20s at best) before I had the lambda O2 sensor changed and it is now 31mpg average. Worth checking first.

I would be interested to know this too. My V70 has a DPF and I would like to remove it as MPG is poor compared to the 163 D5 also the soot filter fills up every now and again.

I didn't realise that you could have the software changed to allow you to do this.

With regards to the pipe... could you not have a pipe manufactured or better still have a stainless exhaust custom made?

hi bobdabuilda,

apart from low fuel economy, were there any other signs of the 02 sensor going? my 185 model only gets c.24-25mpg. each time it goes for a service nothing is flagged up. would you mind letting us know how much it was to change?

stu

Sorry stu it was done under warranty so no idea although the sensor is £80 on ebay (bosch only so don't use anything else!). My mpg was similar to yours though and I presume it was picked up on vadis or whatever software the stealers use.

never managed more than 24 mpg out of mine. If any one gets better (with a DPF model) is their average speed higher than mine (22mph)
