Default Airbag Light

On my V40 I have an airbag light up on the dash board, now although I know this is not an MOT failure I would prefer to have the airbags working especially when carrying my young daughter.

So how many impact sensors does a car have (I assume these are just behind the bumper?) and is there any way to identify which one is faulty?

Depending on the year of the car .. There are a load of sensors in the 01+ version.. The impact sensor itself is behind the gearstick ad there are a further 4 in the B and C pillars. Add in your seatbelt charges as well. I was told and I am open for correction that they have 14 different parts to the Airbag syatem itself...!

As I siad I can be corrected in this .. Que Liam Baffler....!

It's true for 2003 models, there are 14 units:

-steering wheel clock spring with 4 wires - 2 for each ignitor.
-passenger airbag with 4 wires, also 2 for each ignitor.
-inflatable curtain, 1 ignitor with 2 wires per each side
-front seat side airbags, also 1 ignitor with 2 wires per each side
-front belt tensioners, also 1 ignitor with 2 wires per each side

-4 side impact sensors, in B and C pillar, 2 wires each
-driver and passenger seat belt lock (to detect if seatbelt is used or not), 2 wires each

I suggest you look under both seats for possible loose connectors and wires.
