92 940 turbo running rough at idle but goes down road ok
As I said 1992 940 turbo idles rough but when cruising down the road a ok. Until idling at light stop sign so forth. But does not die. Once in awhile at first a hesitation but gone once you run her on the road. Any ideas here why? We just replaced the head gasket thanks to anti freeze leaks from old hoses and o rings. Temp completely back to normal now. Also washer pump stopped working. Are there in line fuses to this? Thanks for any help. I love the car. I call it my little tinker toy until we find out all the little things wrong or go wrong on it.
I forgot we put new spark plugs and wires on her to. That did not help the idling rough problem. Last edited by zorah; Aug 3rd, 2010 at 23:56. |

I'd check/clean the throttle body housing and IAC valve - these usually cause poor idling. Also check your distributor cap and rotor arm - these are often neglected as it can be a bit awkward getting the cap off. Replace with genuine Bosch parts if needed.
I had a problem with idling on my current 850 which I resolved by fitting new Bougicourd HT leads - but all my redblocks ran happily even on very poor condition HT leads (although I'd still recommend replacing with Bougicourd if yours are aged/stiff). Final check is that all the vacuum hoses are secure and leak free. Hope this helps.
