Hi, Sorry if this is posted somewhere but I've had a good root round and can't find it. Just started looking at XC90s and I'm wondering what is considered high mileage in them? Is a 5 year old car with 150k on it worth looking at or is it about to hit big trouble. Thanks.

I have an 05 XC 90 with 145k miles. I've always driven high mileage cars, and as long as they have decent history, then they're usually fine. Mine had dealer history to 102k, but independent since.

I did have a few issues with my car at 140k, going into limp mode when accelerating and the main dealer was useless, suggesting it could need any number of expensive things(turbo, fuel pump etc). I took it to a local independent mechanic, who was prepared to have a look, as opposed to read a computer screen, and found a £30 fuel filter sorted it. 5000 miles later and we're still going strong.

As long as it has decent history (no used car dealer 'stories') and you buy at a realistic price, and understand that it will be slightly harder to sell on, then there is absolutely nothing wrong with high milers.

Good luck.

Forgot to add to my last post, but from reading this forum, at over 100k, Volvos, and in particular the XC90, seem to have had all the usual problems sorted.

Thanks For that. I'm not opposed to high milers as the Toyota we currently run was a high miler that we've used for 6 years or so, I just don't know of any issues with the XC90 that might show up.

Yes. Irv Gordon took his Volvo engine apart for a rebuild at 980,000 miles as He thought it must be shot by then. Couldn't find anything wrong with it so put it back together and it's up to 2,800,000 now. he learnt his lesson and leaves it alone now. ;-)
