All dealers are the same, some good, many bad.
Some years ago (and in better financial times) I went to the local BMW dealer to look at bikes. I had been intending to buy a nearly new R1100 as the wait for a new one was quite long and I was impatient. I spent over an hour looking at the bikes (was looking that closely I could probably have serviced a few) without a single approach. Walked out and drove to a Harley dealer for a look around and ended up putting a 30 mile old Sportster with it's own value in options on my Switch card! Fortunately my main customer at the time was sponsored by BMW and through that I knew their sales director quite well. He was less than impressed with the answer when he asked why I'd bought 'that agricutural piece of crap not one of these that you like'! How do they make money other than selling cars to lease companies? |

I posted recently about my main dealer experience in Mill Volvo Stockton. The service manage to put it bluntly was an a***. And they will no longer have my custom.
Perhaps it is a trait of Volvo dealers that they don't like customers. |

If you walked into my house, leaving oily boot prints all over the place I'd ban you too!

I have a simple policy with firms like some of those illustrated.
I just don't go back. EVER.....and I spread the word. They get no further business from me from that point No wonder so many businesses in the UK go under. They don't have the 'service' attitude that most GOOD companies DO have. Too often, the customer is regarded as an intrusion to the smooth flow of the day. I know of several motor dealerships around Exeter that I would NEVER buy a car from because the showroom staff are so far up themselves, and in one case downright offhand and arrogant if you want to buy anything other than a brand new car. You are CAR SALESMEN guys!! You are not employed to sit behing a desk in a showroom, pretending to be importantly chatting on the phone, or buried in paperwork that can wait.... and look down pompously on everybody that walks into the business. As too often happens. You are there to SELL CARS. SO.. if you want to SELL CARS, come down off your lofty perches. Get up from your desks, take the snooty look off your face, greet the CUSTOMER with a smile, and you just might sell more cars!! He might have just come into a lot of money, no matter how he/she is dressed!! It's US spending the money....and we can always take it next door!! As the old saying goes: The Customer is ALWAYS right. He may be a total A'Hole.....but he is a CUSTOMER!! And they are thin on the ground these days!!

Funnily enough I was on my way to the cinema with a mate last night and he was saying he had been into our local Toyota dealers tasked with looking at a new fleet of vehicles for his firm, from nice 4x4s to vans. "yes sir, we will get a quotation tegther etc etc" He chased them and got "oh, did you not get my e-mail? must be in my drafts box" that was two weeks ago!
Years ago I was working in Currys in Edinburgh and an old scruffy smelly man acme in. No-one would go near him si i went up and asked if i could help. He bought a £19k plasma telly with 5 year warranty, a top of the range vcr, dyson and a couple of other new bits and bobs that was more than my weeks targt and paid cash out of a smell holdall. I carried some of the stuff out for him and we tried to wedge it in a brand new purple Chrrysler Prowler! I now live in the Scottiah Borders and I recently completed a 300k transfer for a fella that comes in with he arse hanging out of hi s trousers and holes in his jumpers. imake a point of treating everyone as I like to be traeted. right, off to Clelands to buy a rear spindle cover fr my 10year old V70 and some touch u paint! |

Well I have been into Clelands in Galashiels, asked them to find the colour of my car and also that i wanted a spindle cover for the rear wiper.
Took the chap about 20 minutes of his time all in, including coming out to get he VIN number to ensure the correct shade of silver was ordered. All in the sale is under £10 but everyone who was there was friendly, polite and welcoming. I even got offreed coffee at the Jag dealership next door, although that might be cos my mate is the salesman! |

Good service Does exist , it is difficult to find in the morass of dire establishements.
So far, ive been Lucky enough to find 4 places for my volvo who all offer proper customer service, to outstanding customer service. 3 main dealers (two thanks to the forum) and 1 indi/specialist ,again thanks to the forum. and have had contact with another indy/specialist or two who have been as helpful as they could , havent had the need yet to use them. fyi , and in no order the 4 ive found so far FRF < brilliant , nuff said. Anglia volvo < similar to frf levels of service! Paul Rigby volvo > bham dealer, as helpful as and then some. GRN Motors, indy, imagine being able to get honest no bs advice, book your car in within the week (twice ! ) of asking, getting the work done, done correctly, finding helpful friendly staff there, finding that not only do they do the work but the car comes back Clean, then doing the same again for the larger/longer work needed. oh and saving a respectable bundle over main dealer price while your at it. its not all bad out there, but the Good ones are getting harder to find, and as such are a very nice supprise when you do.
