Default Missfire

Hi all again

1999 2.3 T5 V70

I have a problem with a misfire not all the time what happens is the car will hold back and misfire exactly like you are running out of petrol even though the fuel gauge shows 5 gallons left and about 200 miles range left then it will clear and run perfect then for no apparent reason will do it again its very frustrating oh and one more thing every now and then the tick over will play up the engine hunts between 500 and 1500 revs very quickly a few stabs on the throttle normally sorts that out not good as the car is automatic i have striped the inlet manifold of and replaced all the vacuum hoses and cleaned and checked the electronic throttle body (it was replaced 9000 miles ago by main dealer still looks new) all seams OK there there was a one way vacuum valve that was sticky but washed that out and that sorted it out there is no warning lights on.

If anybody has any ideas i would be grateful

Alan

If you have a standard distributor cap set up and not coil packs, you should look at this as they are the most common faults for misfires. Replace the cap, rotor and leads if they have not been replaced already.

Check that they did ACTUALLY replace the TB and not just clean it and "update the firmware" on it. I think the replacement ones have a different colour sticker. http://home.comcast.net/~donwillson/tech_info.html
