Default iPod/iPhone playback

If you connect an iPod or iPhone to the USB socket does the head unit start playing a track automatically?

Is it possible to stop songs and play audio through streaming apps instead of tracks in the device?

The reason I ask is the Volkswagen iPod interface in my Golf only plays tracks off my iPhone - if you stop playback and launch an app, the system reverts to track playback after a few seconds. It's very annoying and I'm waiting for an XC90 to be delivered and wondered if it's the same?

Thank you

I have my old iPhone (broken screen for the little story) in the glovebox and it seems to be always on. Ie, as soon as I select USB on the radio, It is playing something.

I try to connect my current iPhone but it says 'connection invalid'. I think the latest iPhone os is not recognised by my my10 stereo.

Anyway, putting the iPhone/iPod for streaming via an apps in the glove box would be a pain as you cannot select track / album from the steering wheels ( no different than at home on your dock)

good news is the xc90 has an input in the front armrest. So, I leave the iPod in the glove box and connect my iPhone with spotify on the input audio.

I could not understand why we had both until I wondered how to play from spotify...

I hope my long explanation helps

Very useful thank you. Are there two USB connectors or is the arm rest point a 3.5mm aux jack?
