I think these days it is a lot, lot worse for kids than it was 20 years ago.

A 360 was always highish insurance aswell, a 340 1.4 should be cheaper, but maybe they are all classed together now. The 1.4 will be alot easier on petrol aswell. Got to be more picky about rust though than 700/900s.
You might find that its the 'Turbo' on the body name that is the problem, if you went for a B200FK/B230FK its not called a 'turbo' and is a fair bit cheaper on insurance. Only difference is the wastegate actuator. None of the insurance companies seem to ask if it actually has a turbo and many don't realise it has. |

I can believe this! Since I was 17 I've paid 900/yr for 1.3 Maestro; 1300/yr for Triumph 2000; 1600/yr for shagged old '85 Audi 90 2.0; 1600 for '94 Audi 8d0 2.0 sport.... and these were all insured under Dads name!!
In the last few years insuring the Mini has been about 500/yr on classic, and the 740 GLE has been 500/yr with 1NCB. I've just turned 25 now though and insured the Mini with Footman James for 104/yr, unlim mileage, breakdown (inc. EU), modifications and agreed value! Hopefully the 740/940 insurance will also come down when i renew! I tried last year to get quotes to change to a 940 turrbo or a 960 2.5 - and for the remaining 8 months it increased the policy by a grand!! I think out of decency, and purely to help you out, I'll offer you a straight swap with either my 740 or 940!! ;-)

Kind offer.
Is the 740 old enough for "classic" insurance?

Probably!! It's an '88 so it's over 20 years old...

Being young sucks when it comes to insurance. My old 00' punto was £1300 with 1 yr NCB. However next weekend I'm getting my new beast. 2.3 740. I'm only 19 so insurane is gunna rape me. Luckily mothers insurance was due too so I've managed to tempt the rents into going for admirals multi car policy. 1481 for me the rents and the 3 cars. score
