Default Volvo V70 2.4T Oil

Hi guys, what oil should I put in my V70? It's a 2.4T with 132k miles on the clock...thanks!

P.S. I was thinking, if I re-name this thread, and if it was stickied, we could put all the relevant oil information for 850's, V/S70's in here too, so members need only go to one thread for their Oil information needs!

I've always used a 5W/30 full synthetic, Vauxhall do a good one you can buy at reasonable prices for a 20 ltr ddrum.

However, if the engine has not been run with this through most of it's life changing to full synthetic maybe a risk as it may remove 'sealing' carbon from oil seal etc. and create a leak.

i'm not too sure what it has been run on...I have got old M.O.T's for the car when I bought her but no sign of service history except 1 bill in november 09, this shows they used mobil 10W/40...shall I carry on using this to be safe...?

I'm also going to ring the garage on Monday to ask what oil was used in previous services, and when the timing belt was actually done, because the seller said it'd been done by the same garage as the service and I could ring them to verify it as they have it on record.

My local volvo dealer used Castrol oil, 10/40 SAE grade for my 2.4T when I last used them. Like Chris say with changing oil, that very same thing he mentioned happened to my 2.4T, it started leaking oil around the sump - thanks to K--- Fit

If you want to keep your car for a long time, and if your pocket stretches enough, use Mobil-1. http://www.mobil-1.co.uk/cms/why_mobil_1.aspx

The original tests, 200,000 km of hard driving from new in a BMW M5, showed absolutely no wear on engine parts when it was dismantled.

Also, you can double or even treble the oil change interval, so you will recover some if not all of the extra cost of this superb oil. But this is not officially condoned, of course!

Flush the engine and change the filter before changing to this oil.
