740 Turbo oil leak
Hi All,
I have recently bought a 1988 740 turbo (B230et) that is dripping quite a bit of oil on the driveway. Would anyone know if this model has one of those crankcase breather thingys that might be the culprit ? Not got myself a haynes manual yet ! |

Yes, a blocked breather system can cause oil leaks, especially on the turbo engines.
You can find details in the FAQ

Oil could be leaking from a number of different places, the best thing to do is to get it clean with a jet wash and lots of soap then see if you can trace the leak imediately after a short run.
The most likely culprits are: The crankcase breather blocked and oil leaking out of the base. The turbo drain pipe can crack at the top or leak at the bottom seal. The seal between the oil filter adaptor and the block can go hard an not seal properly. Crankshaft rear main seal. Sump plug needs a new copper washer. Hope that helps! |
