Unhappy A couple of things!

Hi all,
went to go out this afternoon and found silvery/white residue under Ernie on the driveway and no power steering until I turned the wheel a few times, I've checked the fluid level and is o.k also nice and red there's no signs of any leaks?

Also rear washer doesn't work when i press the button and there's no noise from the motor but the wiper still activates. would it be the motor?

Just to check, 190 city miles on three quarters of a tank is this roughly right?

thanks.

Default Rear wiper/washer

Might be the plumbing.

Remove the air cleaner (if it's in the way of the reservoir) and look at the two pumps - that with the lesser amount of piping is for the rear washer. Remove the pipes then get someone to try the washer. That'll tell you if the pump is working or not.

The pipework for the tailgate washer runs through the bulkhead on the driver's side and can separate in cold weather, dumping fluid onto the carpet. There are numerous fixes; mines involves cable-ties and a length of brass tube from a model shop that goes through the bulkhead, with the rubber pipe connecting it to the pipe inside the passenger compartment and cable ties securing the pipe inside a length of the rubber tubing.

To get at the pipework you'll need to remove the interior kick-plate and the side trim from the A-pillar, then lie on your back and hunt around under the dash area. (This is a PITN, and best done with lots of space at the side of the car, NOT in your garage.)
