Default v50 2.0d clutch problem

i have a 2006 v50 2.0d its just turned 46,000 miles i live in north wales going down to cardiff on friday down the A470 ,after about 2 hrs into the drive with the wife and child int the car "so no silly driving " and the condition was a bit ice ,i thought i must of hit a couple of black ice patches on the roads a couple of times ,but after a few more hils it was getting worse ,it started off slipping in 5th gear ,then in 6th ,now that ive got the car back home today without taking it over 2000rpm and 5.5 hrs later the only benefit of driving the car like this i got 52mpg out of it !!! ,im just wondering if anyone has had the same problem with slipping clutch and is there any common problems "thrust bearing or the fly wheel isues" i need to know about before i order the parts ..............................
