Problem solved
the good news is problem should be solved by friday. The problem was the car had no all wheel drive as the power transmission unit sleeve and oils were goosed!!! Angle Gear is in good working order which is a relief. Got full Volvo health check by Barnetts Dundee, highly recommend Jim, knows his stuff and knows the volvo awd system inside out. New Battery and apart from that car tip top apparently. See this one owner stuff does pay off!!! Should get her back on Friday. The thing is its very difficult to know if your awd drive is actually working unless your in snow, ice or wet grass.

That sounds to me like your angle gear is knackered if you are reporting that the front wheels are just spinning without the rears. The rears should start moving before the front as the computers send more torque to the rears on take off.
I drove mine in the snow and I had no problems at all and I was not hanging about either. |

Quote:
The rear wheels are engaged when you a) accelerate off from a standstill, b) accelerate when moving (rolling) and c) when entering a corner it will give the car an oversteer feel. |

Had an S60R for just over 4 years, and live just outside Aberdeen. Never had a problem in the snow until I moved out to the country and then the only problem was ground clearance. Have to admit I never knew that it was fwd at low speeds.
If you want to drive in the snow though I would seriously recommend getting 4 snow tyres. We put some on my better halves C30 - and what a difference it made. |

I had a 2003 manual V70 R for 4 yrs & found it really good in the snow it didn't wheel spin pulling away in the snow. Also no problem giving it some beans from a standstill in the wet it just gripped & went with no hint of any spinning. Its the best car i've ever had for traction in wet weather. Sold it last year & now got a generation 3 D5 R-Design which is crap in the snow.
