Default What is this part called?

Hubby has a Volvo 440 Xi with a 1721 cc engine which is now starting to run into trouble. There is a hose in it that has three ends (T-shaped), one of which goes to the engine, another to the heater and he isn't sure what the other end goes to. It has a temporary repair but desperately needs replacing. The only other thing I can say is that when it developed its hole, he got steam coming out of the bonnet and the expansion bottle emptied. The snag is that I haven't a clue what it is called so it makes hunting for a replacement pretty difficult! Has anyone got any ideas?

It is called a heater feed hose your volvo dealer should be able to get one for you , The thinner hose you mention goes off to heat the inlet manifold .. I guess you have a B18U engine type ..

item 34 in the drawing?

Thanks very much. How do I tell if that is the engine type he has?

Our mechanic has tried the Volvo dealer but was told they didn't stock this bit anymore. He is away at the moment and therefore has not been able to try the local breakers, however the temporary repair he did is not lasting so we thought we would try to find somewhere that does the part before it completely disintegrates.

If it has 1721cc it is the 1.7i, the B18U has 1794cc.

or 1783cc , the 83.5mm stroke was later reduced to 83mm in the 200/203
B18U versions ..

That heater hose in my diagram is still available from volvo at ...... £98!

I have replaced that hose on my B20F. I remember being at the dealer that there are something like 3 types of that hose for different types of engines. They are all replaced by 1 type. I just ran through my bills and found 3466430 as the part#. I paid €38,00 for it in jan. 2008. You can check the part# on your old hose. The part# should start with a 3, if not it is an old part# and to look it up in the Vadis system from the dealer just add that 3. Otherwise it won't come up in Vadis.

Did mine 3 years ago, as it had a little pin hole on the far side where it had chaffed against something. I can't remember what but the offending item was soon cable tied back to where it belonged!

The hose is a little bit of a pain, and i suggest cutting it free from the bulk head fitting because that's the heater matrix which is easy to damage. Just slit down the side of the hose and gently rotate it back and fore until it free's its self.

DON'T YANK ON IT!

oh and bleeding the head of air is a bucket of fun, i'll leave you to figure that out.
