Default 1971 1800E Rebuild questions

Happy New Year Everyone.

I'm currently undertaking restoration of my 1971 1800E and having started as a rolling restoration it's now turned into a full strip-down and bare-metal resparay...so expect a few questions in the next few months...

But to start with...

Having removed the indicators I'm having great trouble finding the correct connectors for the bulbs. They're brown, disc shaped but with a slit cut into them. I've attached a picture for reference. If I'm missing something obvious or anyone knows where to get them, please let me know!

Also, does anybody have a spare of the metal indicator base (the part the bulbs fit into).

I'm also after 2 Mint or very good rear window chrome trims (the part that goes from the end of the gutter chrome trim to the door handle)

2x Mint or very good sill step plates.

Thanks a lot in advance

Mark Hinxman

I will hopefully have a fair few bits up for sale/trade as the rebuild progresses!

Mark,
if you buy new indicator/sidelight bases they come with the light fittings you refer to. Morris Minor ones are the same - and much cheaper than the Volvo ones- except for the thin 'wall' that stops the light from the sidelight illuminating the indicator lense and vise versa. These are easy to make and glue in place, or you can rescue the old ones from your original light bases. Why don't you get your original window trims re-chromed? Cheaper than new - if you can get new - I had mine done and they are perfectly acceptable unless your going to get really silly about the finished car.

Mike,

Thanks for the reply. I had thought about rechroming them but wasn't sure if the metal was too thin and might suffer during the polishing process?

If rechroming items such as the Chrome trim that sits on top of the rear wing is possible, then I will definitely go that route.

Thanks a lot

Mark

Mine came out OK and don't forget most of the trim is hidden behind that thick window rubber. The 'chrome' that runs along the back wing is, in the case of your E, polished aluminium so it won't chrome (I don't think). However the early cars (up to about '65) had chromed brass on the rear wing and if you can find a pair of those even in tarnished condition, they can be re-chromed and will look better than your original item.
