'Tailgate Open' warning
Thanks to those who helped with my previous post (tailgate wont lock). Got that one sorted now which was a broken wire running through into the tailgate.
However, i was hoping to sort out the other issue and one that is a complete pain and that is the 'Tailgate Open' warning that comes up on the dash. I have checked the micro switch in the tailgate lock and this is working ok but it does not turn on or off the warning message on the dash. The interior light positioned in the boot also has a mind of its own coming on and off when it wants to. All this does is to turn the alarm on at all times of the day. Any other places or switches/sensors that i have missed?? Also, the alarm siren has gone quiet all of a sudden, i know i wanted to put an axe through it but the electrics have beaten me to it. The indicators flash to indicate the alarm going off but the siren is not sounding? Are these two items linked??? |

I expect the tailgate open warning is due to broken wiring to the micro switch if the switch works OK.
The siren is problem is well know (internal battery failure) there is a kit to replace the whole unit, a search of this forum will reveal more info. |

Hello Chris, thanks for the reply.
I did think this as i could grab the loom passing into the tailgate and cause the lamp to flash on & off. However, once i had replaced the broken wire for the central locking, i now cannot get the interior boot lamp to light up at all. The micro switch works fine and i get a signal (pink wire) when operated back to the wiring connector near the rear fuse box. The other side of the switch (brown wire) just goes to earth. The lamp just comes on and off when it suits now but has no affect on the warning message on the dash which is continually there. |

I think you still have a broken wire somewhere in the loom, the worst case would mean uncliping and removing the section from the car for inspection unfortunately... however, you might be able to isolate the failure by checking the contiuity from pin to pin for each coloured wire.

Thanks for the reply.
I am due to get back to the car for a second look but from memory, i thought there was only one wire (salmon) that passes through the loom into the tailgate. I did do a continuity check on this already and it seemed ok. The Salmon coloured wire goes to the micro switch in the tailgate lock and then to earth on the rear window. Where else does the rear light (boot) get its power from?? |

Thanks to all who replied, the issue is now sorted.
There were two wires that had broken, a grey wire which feeds the micro switch and a very large black wire which i cannot believe snapped in two! which feeds the rear heated window. These two combined caused the 'Tailgate Open' warning on the dash. Hopefully, this may help others later. |
