Limp mode
Brianiacs needed for advice! I have a 1999 S80 140bhp 2.4 petrol manual with 124000 miles, which has been driving ok since I got it 18 months ago. The other day it showed " urgent engine service required" & is now in limp mode. My mobile mechanic connected up a code reader which (I think) showed 5 faults, throttle body, emissions sensors & I think MAF. They can't all be at fault & we think one is throwing the others out causing them to show a fault, trouble is......which one. The car starts ok, the only symptom is that the car no longer idles evenly, but constantly surges, brmm brmm brmm, type thing. Any ideas, as the prices of the throttle body is enough to send the clonker to the scrap yard.

Is the car now ok again or still in limp mode?
If it is you can possibly reset the engine back to normal operation by doing the following, this will NOT repair the error or stop the fault, just makes the car think it has been repaired until fault represents itself, especially as could be a one off for example a little bad fuel if a sensor issue...as usual not liable for any damage etc. Most likely problems from hat I have read is MAF or emmision sensors. To reset, whilst engine running , push the trip reset button for around 10 seconds you will hear a beep, remove finger!. Turn off engine, leave key in, but return to off position. Restart engine, put into gear and drive off, warning 'should' go in about 5 seconds. Again not responsible for damage or misuse, just a work around, (and yes for all those who are about to say how bad this is etc, I know it is just a way around the system and DOES NOT REPAIR THE FAULT) |
