Default Regarding Manual and Power Tailgate

A quick question regarding both the manual tailgate and the power tailgate on XC60

Have read a few forums and the info is conflicting!

There is a button in the XC60 next to the headlight switch to "open" the boot lid. - what exactly does it do?

1. In vehicles equipped with a manual boot lid - do they have this button?

2.In manual boot lid equipped vehicles if it has this button does it just unlock or unlock and unlatch the boot lid ?

3. In vehicles equipped with a power boot lid - with the switch being near other buttons you use say one inadvertently pressed it would the boot lid open and go up whilst you are driving or is it inhibited? - same for manual boot lids if it has this button - would it unlock and unlatch or just unlock?

I have heard the button
a) just unlocks the boot lid
b) unlocks and unlatches the boot lid
c) unlocks unlatches and raises the boot lid (on power tailgate)

Wouldnt fancy all my shopping shooting out of the back whilst going down the motorway!!

Thanks people for your enlightenment!

on the XC60 equip'd with power boot lid once car is in motion it won't open even if you press the button since all doors inc. boot is locked?
and yes when you press the button it will open and raise the boot lid.
there's another button on the bottom of boot lid which close the lid automatically
also you can stop the amount of opening by pressing the button while the boot lid is being opened - handy where the height is restricted

On the power tailgate, whether you use the button on the dash or the button on the keyfob, you have to hold it down for over 2 seconds for the boot to initiate opening, so it is highly unlikely you would accidentally trigger it.

The touch sensitive pad on the boot itself causes it to open straight away.

You can't open the power tailgate if the car is moving.

Default The same for the manual tailgate?

So I assume it is the same for the manual tailgate if it has a button in the compartment? - same thing applies - nothing happens if the vehicle is in motion?

Many thanks

i have a manual tailgate and pcc so am yet to work out what the button inside the car does. possibly unlock it, but i can't tell! every time i walk to the boot i have the pcc communicator in my pocket, and that would unlock the tailgate even if the button in the compartment hasn't.

What then happens if say you are in Town shopping and pass your vehicle several times during your shopping trip.
Does the PCC unlock the car each time as you walk nearby?

The boot has an automatic unlock/lock facility.... It opens as you approach the vehicle.

What I am saying is ~ with darb mentioning

will this auto unlock open the boot each time you get within range of the vehicle?

Err....don't think so.

It might appear to unlock it, as every time you try it, it will unlock as you have the PCC. If I recall, you would have to stand very close to each lock for the PCC to see you, so if someone else tried to open the boot without the PCC, it should not open.

pcc is pretty clever. there are several proximity sensors in the car, and the system uses these to determine where the key is in relation to the vehicle. for example, if someone is stood with the key by the drivers door, only the driver side doors can be opened, e.g not the tailgate or passenger side doors. the door will only unlock when the correct handle is pulled. you can also configure what you want to happen when the correct door is opened, e.g. allow all other doors inc the tailgate to be opened. on all xc60's you can set all doors to lock after you hit 4mph - very useful.
