164 bonnet release cable
The bonnet release cable seems to have pulled out of the bulkhead and still works but just waves around. The cable outer seems too long inside the car to allow me to push the white plastic bit back into the bulkhead, maybe because the outer has stretched?
I think there should be some sort of clip fitted to the white plastic bit on the bonnet side to stop it pulling through? If I need a new cable I have seen one advertised for a 240/260 that looks the same (mine is round knob not the T shape) and wondered if someone could confirm it will fit the 164. The workshop manual does not appear to be any help on this so any suggestions on how to fix the cable into the bulkhead would be welcome. Jonathan |

I now know there are two cable types, and mine is the later type also fitted to the 200 series and readily available. I think on mine someone has given it a big yank and pulled the metal securing clip right through the bulkhead leaving the cable just waving around.
For now I have pulled it back to almost where it should be and tightened the clips that fix the outer cable to the inner wing and lubricated cable, catch, and spring. I really need to take the old cable right out so I can refix the clip back on the engine side of the bulhead to do it properly. Jonathan |
