Default Low power 2003 D5 - please help

Hi all,
I'm beginning to panic here.....
I just picked up a nice looking S60 D5 2003 last night, and it drove fine out of London to get home.
On the motorway it seemed a little sluggish, but it was midnight and I wasn't sure if it was just me.
I've driven it this morning, and I seem to have no boost! It runs smoothly, but doesn't pick up as you would expect. The display says engine service, but the car has a full service history.
Any ideas what could be going on?
I'm really quite worried about it.

Many thanks,

Chris.

1st thing to check is the rubber inlet hose to the turbo. Through age and constant abuse from excessive vaccum they go soft and what hapends is that under boost, the walls of the inlet pipe close in on themselves ultimately starving the car of air and causing the "engine service message". If this pipe hasnt been changed, that would be my first port of call.

If it isnt that, im affraid it could possibly be your intercooler, which seem to go on the d5 anytime after 100,000. Check to see if its been replaced.

My money is on the soft inlet pipe attached to the turbo though

Hope this helps!

Thanks for that RAN60,
I've got it booked in to the garage over the road (so to speak) tomorrow. They are not Volvo specialists, but he reckons he can read the fault codes etc.
I'll drop it in there in the morning and mention what you have said.
Many thanks,
Chris.

I've replied on T5D5 as I see you have put up the same thread on there

As on T5D5 if you have just bought it yesterday, go straight back to the seller and get them to sort it. Full service history counts for little these days.

TBH, in any case I think you'd be better off getting to a Volvo garage or indy. Generic code readers which your local garage may have won't be able to interpret the Volvo specific codes and could lead you in the wrong direction.

Boost hoses or popped i/c is my first guess.

Well, good news today

I took it to the independent Volvo specialist in Cardiff and they plugged it in to have a chat with the computer - air leak problem.
Hour and a half later and the disconnected vacuum hose behind the air inlet to the manifold was found to have come out of it's connector.
The bloke pushed it back in and all is well!!

What a relief, and what a pleasure it is to drive now! All the way home with a big smile on my face.

Thanks for your replies and help so far,

Chris.
