Hi.

I have just replaced the lap belt in the rear seat of my 760 saloon with a three point aftermarket conversion from Securon. It's not easy to find on their site but I think this is the page.
http://www.securon.co.uk/other/seat_belts_centre.htm

It may well be an easier job than replacing the rear seats.

Stephen

Default Volvo child car seats

Following my posting a few weeks ago...

Just ordered and picked up my child car seat from Volvo yesterday - suitable from birth to about age 3 - 4 year old and will fit in the centre position with only a 2 point seat belt if that's all you have.

Very well made and securely fitted into the car unlike some of the third party seats I've tried on my 940. Cost with support legs about £220 so not cheap however...

Hard to find on the Volvo website, try here:

http://www.volvocars.com/uk/campaign...s/newborn.aspx

Will post the part numbers for you later on,

Chris

Default car seat part numbers

Child car seat 31263083
Support legs 6849970

Cost £183 ex VAT

The seat goes up to age 3 or 4 depending on size of child, is rearward facing and as I mentioned fits securely using seat or lap belt and two 'eyes' at the end of the front seat rails - if you don't have these they are available as an accessory.

As 940 is an older model it took a lot of effort on part of the dealer to check with Volvo over suitability of the seat - as it happens it is compatible with all models from the 200 series upwards.

Volvo make several accessories, including booster cushions and seat inserts for children - worth a trip to your dealer to see what they have.

Hope this proves useful,

Chris

Default Securon 3 point rear seatbelt conversion

I was looking through some posts here and found reference to a Securon aftermarket conversion to turn the rear centre lap belt into a 3point seatbelt.

It's priced at £95.70

The bottom right pic of these looks very much like a 740/940 estate.

Has anyone fitted one of these?

Thats interesting. The fixings used in the picture (it is an early 940 or 740) are for the extra childrens rear seat.
I would think Securon have checked it out but the belt is pulling in a slightly different direction and might not be strong enough to hold an adult if they were using it. Probably OK for a child set though.

For some markets childrens belts are shown fitted to fixing points in the seat backrest. Not sure if the holes are present on all cars but depending on what you are doing might be worth looking for.

One thing that might be worth thinking about is that later cars with 3, 3 point belts had different catches to hold the seat backrest. Volvo might have changed these from the early ones if there was a problem with the strength of the original ones.

The securon pages show children in the seatbelt so, possibly, it might be that their belt would be best suited for children.

As that's what I'm looking at using it for I'll check into it further.

I've seen reference to the later cars having revised fittings, probably as you say to ensure everything stays in place if there were 3 adults in the back and there was an accident.

rgds

Edit: just re-read the securon webpage and they state their belt is good for adults and children, including being retro-fitted in cars where a 3rd belt wasn't fitted when new, so perhaps the revised anchorage points may not be due to safety afterall.

Also, I found a copy of the securon belt on their website with a release date of 2003 so it must be confirming to regulations at least as good as those volvo applied to the 940/960 range of the 90's

http://www.securon.co.uk/press/seat_belts_carpress.htm

I'll see what I can turn up ...
