Default Serious lurching on hitting potholes and ruts

I got an 03 V70 XC D5 Geartronic about two months ago. It's got about 96k on it.

The problem we have is that when it hits a pothole or ruts it lurches to the side (usually the left but can be either side) and it feels like I've lost momentary control. I'm usually paying attention when it's happened so only a firm hand on the steering wheel was needed, but I'm not sure what would happen if you were caught unawares. Other than that, it's just a bit disconcerting.

There are no error codes or anything else about the car in anyway that indicates a fault of some kind. Plus, it's recently been serviced and MOT'd.

I don't know if it's a natural body characteristic and that, being new to the the car and 4WDs in general, I just need to get used to it. Or it might be a problem with the suspension, AWD, steering or something else.

It's still under warranty but before I take it to the garage I want some feedback from elsewhere since I don't trust them particularly. (They forgot to properly secure the track rod end to the NS front wheel before giving it to us!)

NB - it was this garage that did the service and MOT mentioned above, but after their mistake we had a safety inspection done at our normal garage to check they hadn't made any other potentially fatal mistakes.

I've never encountered anything like this lurching before in any other car (or van) I've driven.

Any help much appreciated.

hi, this is a tracking problem, visit your nearest tyre shop and get it checked, i bet its miles out and if your tyres are not dead yet they will be very very soon if not checked and adjusted. this advice is on the basis the your recent mot was an MOT and not just looked at as a slap a ticket on it and get it out coz ive sold it otherwise could be any major part of the suspension but as i said if just been mot'd in the propper manor your suspension is aok and just a tracking issue

Have you bounced the corners to see if the shocks are ok?

You're in the wrong forum by the way, not that it matters to me.

Default Thanks (and moving on)

Thanks both. (By the way, tried bouncing but seems fine to me.)

Hadn't realised I'd clicked on the wrong XC70 thread - so going to put the post in the correct place now (and hoping that I don't get shouted at for that when someone realises there's a duplicate!)

Cheers
