regarding either getting the dist cleaned or replaced, its not the handiest thing to get at so the cost of cleaning on top of removing it could be expensive (and not fix it) I cleaned mine a few times and it didnt help

dont even think about asking volvo for a price for the dist, heres the listing number for one on ebay 220685606709, the stepper motor is not the same on the dist listed but yours my be ok, or the seller maybe supply volvo type anyway

Thanks I have emailed them to enquire about a volvo compatible unit. I might as well replace the whole lot while I'm at it.

Thanks Everyone, and I had just splashed out on winter tyres and refurbing some old 850 T5 wheels.... more expense!

Same problem as my 03 S60 BiFuel. I made the mistake of having the distributor cleaned-no difference. The only solution is change the gas distributor, complete with stepper motor, as in the opinion of the independent gas engineer who did mine , it's the stepper motor which contributes to the problem. Also, once it's done, change the large gas filter (on the fuel line) every 12000 miles, and the small one ( on the gas regulator) every 36000 miles. Better to use someone with experience of Volvo gas systems for the small one, as there is a part in there which is notorious for shearing off, resulting in more expensive work.

Unhappy Just to add my tuppence worth...

I've had my 03 S60 Bi-fuel for about 4 months. Recently the engine management / emissions light has come on. I've also had occasional engine failures, normally when coasting or sitting at junctions.

I took it to my local LPG Specialist (J.Hicksons near Lincoln) who has a Volvo Diagnostic Computer. That told him to change the oxygen/lambda sensor which he has done and this has cleared the engine light. He has also diagnosed that one of the cylinders is not getting all the fuel it should or as he put it "its running on 4 1/2 cylinders". He wants to change the stepper motor / distributor. He showed me how if you switch between petrol and gas you can feel that the engine is slightly less smooth on gas.

I think the stepper motor from Volvo is about £230 plus VAT and he reckons about 2 hours labour.

I bought the car with an Autoguard "lifetime" warranty and I am expecting them to cover the cost of parts and labour. (watch this space!)
