Default Engine Mount And Brace

The top engine mount on my car has decided to give up the ghost and needs replacing. The brace that is mounted either side of the engine bay also moves around on the mounts easily. Is this normal? Are the mounts mini shock absorbers or are they equally as worn as the top mount?
Regards
Andy

Yes, it's supposed to be like that.

If yours has the D5 engine replacing the top engine mount is a very easy job and there is a new upgraded mount available where the alloy casting is more squared off.

Thanks for the reply. Its the audi engine in the car. I have replaced the mount but was worried about the brace movement. But now feel happy to know its as it should be.

Thanks again
