Cars are like women , they complain a bit first when they are unhappy , giving you a chance to sort it out , ignore it at your peril! At least you have a permanant fault now which should be easy for an experienced volvo dealer to diagnose ... if your ferrari , or B&O hi-Fi packed up would you take it to someone who hasnt got all the info and training and experience and back up to sort it out ?

I would get the unit removed and checked for dry joints by a competent electronics expert or TV repair man. These things rarely fail intermittently for anything other than a dry joint which can be fixed with a soldering iron.
My MG ZT has the BMW sat nav system and Harmann Kardon sound system. The sound went intermittent, sometimes on, sometimes off. 30 minutes with a soldering iron and magnifying glass had it fixed. The bonus is that if it is a dry joint you will lose non of the vehicle specific programming that you get in modules these day's. Just a case of unplug, solder and plug back in. Rob.

He said his friend had a similar problem on his XC90 and it was water leaking in to the electrics. But he checked for this and said it was totally dry. |

Have the CEM removed and taken to electronics repair place. No re-programming and probably only cost an hour someones time plus a blob of solder. No need to worry about re-programming then.
Rob.
