D19 - S40/V40 to 2004 s40 115bhp engine noise in top end

hi guys my s40 is just a great reliable car,ok ive 165,000 miles on the clock ive replaced the turbo at 145kmiles and i have this sort of tappety noise in the top end i want to know has anyone else any experience of these noise sounds,and does anyone know how many miles these engines last if well maintained??

Very hard to diagnose without seeing/hearing the car. The tapping noise could be anything from incorrect adjustment of the cam belt (incorrect pump timing) to a lazy injector. What grade of oil do you use?

and does anyone know how many miles these engines last if well maintained?

How long is a piece of string? Longevity will depend on how well an engine, and the car for that matter, is maintained. Regular oil and filter changes along with some preventative maintanence along the way (eg. cleaning of the EGR valve) will keep it in top condition. Yes, there is the possibility of turbo or clutch failure but these are to be expected on any highish mileage motor, especially so if there has been many previous owners.
