Default Xc90 d5 2004

Hi,

I am currently a VW Touareg owner and I am very tempted by the XC90 for its extra space and 7 seats.

I went to view a car on Saturday which was very impressive. However, when the guy started it up it turned over 3 or 4 times before firing up. At the time I thought nothing of this and that it had perhaps just been stood on the forecourt for a week or 2 and all was fine.

However, I have continue my research on these and found some real horor stories about injector failure. I cant however seem to work out from all of my trawling of google when Volvo got round to fitting the replacement injectors.

I would be grateful if somebody would be able to help with a simple question and offer opinons.

1. Does anybody know when Volvo fitted the revised injectors to their XC90 D5 [163] engines and therefore which models or engine numbers are likely to be affected?

2. Would you be concerned if the engine turned over a few times before starting as described above?

I am thinking of going back for a test drive but the garage is a bit of a trek away and thought I would seek some advice first.

The car is an XC90, D5, 163, 2.4, Automatic, 2004 model (registered March 2004). It wasn't a cold day when I looked at it approx 20 degrees I would say.

All views and opinons gratefully received.

Thanks
Stu

There is a fairly standard and simple test the garage can do on the injectors to test the internal leakage , i would insist they do this and give you the results before you buy , however in cases like this you may only need one or two injectors to cure . They cost about £250 each ...

i would also suggest you change the cambelt as soon as you get an opportunity as mine failed at 87K with a full Volvo history

other than that cracking cars

expensive but cracking, make sure you get a fully loaded model
