Default Fuel injection relay for 960 - in UK

I am trying to find a replacement fuel injection relay for my 1992 960.

This is the green one that sits behind the ashtray. I am having problems with the engine cutting out when in motion. As soon as the ignition is switched off and switched back on the engine runs only to cut out within a couple of hundred yards. When stationery the engine runs fine but conks out under load.

After reading and following all the posts can find here and I am starting to replace parts. The first one is the relay but I cannot find a supplier. I have tried Volvo, German Swedish, Camberley Auto Factors and they all say it there is no supplier. I wondered if anybody on the forum knows where to source one.

Thanks in advance.

David

Cool

Hi David:

There are several BRAND NEW on Ebay.......Like this one.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLVO-740-760-...item3cb9a2a066

OR this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLVO-760-960-...item43a82788f1

If that's NOT the one, then have you got any numbers on your existing relay....or better still a photo of it?

Hi Oilydad,

Thanks for information. I followed the same route and ordered from the first Ebay link last week. The image in the listing shows the correct relay and the part number on the image is the right one but what was delivered was a different relay altogether and will not fit the socket.

I am about to return it because when I pointed this out to the vendor they referred me to where it says in the listing " Please note that actual item may vary slightly from image shown below".

I reckon to receive a totally wrong relay is stretching that disclaimer a bit.

The second listing is from the same guy and I hesitate to be burnt twice.

However, thank you very much for finding out for me and if anybody else has any ideas please let me know.

Thanks again

David

Sorry about that David. Not surprised you are hesitant. That's a P*SS take!! What a clown this Ebay seller is!

Do you have the actual part number there? Or a picture of your current relay would be a big help.

If it helps, the information I have got from my Vadis is that the Volvo Part Number for a 1992 960 Fuel injector relay is 9494787.

This appears to be a 5 blade connector. Is that correct?

If it helps, the 940 SE Model would appear to have the same F.I Relay as yours, which is different to the normal ones fitted to 940 models (which is a rectangular and bigger) white relay. http://www.davebarton.com/pdf/700-900relaylocations.pdf

May help us to locate one for you. But a picture of your present one would really help.

Sorry for the delay in replying but busy at work.

I managed to source a second hand relay and it turns out the car is a '91 year though registered in 92, The relay is part number 1362914 898473 and pics are attached.

While waiting for the replacement relay to turn up I read that is was possible that the relay was overheating and to try drilling holes in the plastic casing. I cut a slot because it was easier and when for a run but the same cutting out occurred.

The relay arrived and was fitted. I went for test drive and the cutting out occurred so I guess the problem is elsewhere. I shall do more research and find out what the next thing to do is.

Thanks for all the help.

All the best

David

Question fuel relay

you need a relay but in the mean time you could try opening the old one up and looking for the fault maybe contacts need cleaned or theres a brake in the circuit thet could be soldered if you can fix it would be a good spare if and when you do fit a new one.good luck.

I'm breaking a 1992 960 so it should have the relay you require. If you are interested let me know.
