Pop to the scrap yard and pull a couple of air mass meters and crank position sensors off. The fuel saving of EFI over K-Jet will pay for the bits in a month or two...

Having said that, our K-Jet 740 Limo run was surprisingly efficient...5-up, it was still returning circa 30mpg. It broke down, of course...!

My experience with EFI in production cars (in ~100k of motoring, in various examples) has only been with Motronic 4.4 in x70s, but I've found it to be supremely reliable, and any problems easy to fix provided you have diagnostic kit to hand (£25 eBay code reader, in my case). I've had to replace a couple of air mass meters (which I suspect only failed because of oil from a K&N filter) and a throttle position sensor (which was DOA on a replacement engine).

Don't think I'm against old technology, mind you...I'm a carb man at heart

cheers

James

I've only ever had 1 car with electronice fuel injection fitted, and that was my Range Rover 3.5V8 with a Lucus system fitted I think.
I had no end of trouble with the thing, air flow meters, ECU etc, and if you ask me there's nothing more frustrating than being stuck at the side of the road because a little box of tricks is refusing to work. I should point out that the air flow meter on mine was one of those "flappy type" ones as opposed to the "hot wire" ones which was fitted to the 3.9V8 engine and more reliable i'm told.
I remember being cautious when I bought the volvorine, not another fuel injection system.... and then when I had problems with it (actually nothing wrong with it at all, just the dizzy cap) once again I was terrified that I'd be changing all sorts of bits in the hope that one of them would solve the problem....
When I started looking into however, and with the help of this forum I must say, I realised just how simple the mechanical K type fuel injection system is.
I am an engineer in my day job, and pretty old school. I prefer pumps, valves, pipes and springs - thngs which can be played with, LOOKED AT, adjusted, and in most cases - bodged. If there is a problem with something mechanical it can usually be seen/felt (hole in diaphram, broken spring, blocked pipe) or tested easily (multi meter, injector in jam jar, sensor in a bucket of hot water etc) as opposed to boxes which seemingly go wrong for no particular reason.
Give me a carb any day, but K type system has to be the next best thing for me!!!!

Which one....front cam seal, by any chance? If so, it'll probably either be because you've pushed the seal in too far (if it's one of the new-style 'narrow' ones...the original Elring ones are deeper, and will only go in to the correct depth)...or it'll be leaking from around the bearing cap mating faces, which need sealing with some RTV. They're sometimes a sod to get to seal properly...

cheers

James
