[QUOTE=volvorocks Its about what happpens if you put the ATF in through what looks like a filler plug, instead it being a bolt that holds the gearbox together.

Not sure whether it applies to you, although interesting reading to prevent damage.

Any use?[/QUOTE]

Volvorocks...Thanks mate, i do remember you mentioning the same thing to me a week or so back.
I am going to speak to the Mechanic tomorrow to see if he has done what you say he may have done!

He is a mate of mine, so for his sake i hope this aint the case !

But saying that, the old girl i got the car from was preety adamant the car was running sweet just before she sold it to me ?

She did give me the number of her Mechanic who i phoned to find out if he new anything about this Arrow Flashing....Maybe, just Maybe it was HIM who ****ed the box by Servicing the car before i bought it by putting New ATF in the filler plug and not the correct way, which i guess is the Dipstick !!??!!

Will be calling him again in the morning.

Yes. have posted it a few times in this forum. Its frightening to think by removing a bolt you can wreck a gearbox!

Did it again, and Revs went down too 800rpm
Did it a third time, again the Revs went Down too 800rpm.

When plugging the Sensor back, the car cut out on all three attempts.

Check your email I have a MAF you can try and have treated you to a new MAP (about time something nice happened for you!!) I may be in North Finchley on Sunday morning. I think the old girl probably rents herself out to dodgy used car salesmen "Owned by a sweet old lady" when in fact it's been thrashed by a boy racer who totalled it then welded two together!!

If it's a four-speed box there's no bolt you can undo to wreck it; that's only on later five and six speed boxes and when it happens third gear disappears totally.

The four speed is really hard to screw up refilling the box as the only place you can put it without major disassembly of components above it is in the dipstick hole.

I have three theories based on the codes from earlier;

1. Vehicle speed sensor is screwed up - but you should get an ABS light on for that.

2. Auto transmission speed sensor(s) is screwed up - on early boxes there are two on later boxes just one. Check the wiring and remove the sensor and clean it. Sometimes they get crudded up, allowing them to read slower output speeds OK but struggling with higher speeds.

3. The box is shagged, either worn bands, warped steels or a duff high pressure pump. The latter can be checked with a pressure gauge hooked into the auto trans. If it's any of those, best bet is to replace the box with a known good one.

I really think if you are serious about fixing it, the next step might be to take a little time at an auto-trans specialists; many of whom will have a quick look / initial diagnosis for free.

Chris...

Cool

i would suggest putting the engine right first, then see what happens afterwards with the gearbox.

did you try reving it with the maf sensor unpluged?
if it runs better with it unpluged then it could be the maf.
