Spent this afternoon getting the engine out and stripping it down, I am very impressed how new/clean everything in the engine looks. The bearings have very slight wear and the bores still have the manufacturing honing marks on them. 133K and still not started to wear. Hope this give people confidence in there red-block motors.
Just need to find the right spline tool to undo the big-ends. Is this something that Halfords stock or am I having to shop furhter afield? |

They are just bi-hex bolts or nuts aren't they? You probably have single hex or wall (flank) drive sockets.

Well I asked at my local motor factor and they had a spline set for loadsa money, so I thought I might try something else. I am glad I did, as I found a 6 sided torx socket (I already had) went on the 12 splines perfectly, so I didn't need to buy a tool at all. I must have been tired last night, not to think of that!
I now have the engine totally stripped, ready to clean and make into a coffee table, but the wife has other ideas, apparently I already have too much junk in the house! She's right... bah. |

12 point socket works fine on those.

Ah, the chap in the shop did mention them.
More stuff removed this weekend/still up for sale... Throttle body with TPS. Bosch dizzy cap and rotor arm, very low mileage. Alloy rocker cover. Alternator. Starter motor. Clutch master and slaves. Newish radiator. Anything else anyone wants? |
