Hopefully it can be done within that timeframe; I shall keep the thread update - of course. Will take a look at repair panels from Brookhouse too. |

I had some fun this evening…
After refitting the radio, it was still messing around. My friend then offered me a CD player headunit for free; so, being fed up with the rubbish audio, I took him up on it. At least good music will take my mind off the rust. In anticipation for this radio, I needed to figure out what amp my car had so I could get the correct adapter. Thus, I pulled most of the dash off to get to the amp and remove it + reroute the wiring for later. Pics below: Does anyone know what the TIE fighter looking connector does? (The one higher up in the below pic)…It doesn’t connect to the amp loom / speakers, it goes down under then carpet in the passenger footwell. And finally, some ‘90s vibes with these MAX POWER shoulder rests. They add 5 bhp don’t you know (also, a gift from a friend). |

You could well be right Bob, I always thought all the speakers ran through the amp though - and this cable didn't. Plus there is only two wires which says to me more: power and ground. But, I could be wromg.
I can't see an ISO kit that includes that extra connector, so I shall get the one that looks correct for my car; leave the extra TIE fighter unconnected, and see what happens. The back speakers are blowing anyway so not much bother if they don't work with the new radio, I shall just wire up new ones eventually. |

Wasn't max power one of Homer Simpsons' alter egos?

Hi Alan,
Thanks for prompting me to update the thread - life has sure been hectic recently.... So, last time I wrote on here, I had pulled the old radio and amp out. I have since gotten a new radio which will be going in the glovebox. Unfortunately, last week, one of the fan belts snapped whilst I was driving to a colleague's. Thankfully the second belt remained, which enabled me to get home. I have taken this mishap as an opportunity to also replace the alternator, as I knew the current one was on its way out anyway. I have opted for the 100a upgraded unit from Classic Swede, as I intend on running some heavier electrics in the audio system. The parts are currently on order and should arrive this week. Due to changing jobs, things have been all over the place (settling in to the new tasks etc), so I haven't paid much attention to Gertrude - especially as she currently is not moving. But, rest assured, I am still here! |

https://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showt...68#post2718868 Depending on your radio it may not be entirely accurate but should be close. Some of the wiring changed in 1990/91 time. I think the two-pin connector is to have the radio lights come on when the headlights are on, and to dim them when the Volvo instrument lights rheostat is turned up or down via the dashboard knob. You can pick up wring looms cheap from ebay for Volvo 240s to convert to standard ISO connectors. regards Lucien |

Revival of an old thread time! Finally some closure for those of you wondering what happened to my 240.
A little while after the last post (around June last year), I was working a lot less as I changed jobs before uni started up in September. Due to this, and the fact I walked to my job, I couldn’t really warrant having such a large car. So, the 240 sadly went on to another. She now resides with a friend of mine locally, who has tidied her up and is daily driving her. From what I hear, his plans are for an off-road style build eventually, as the Volvo is his tow car. Since the 240 went, I initially had a mk1 Vauxhall Nova, which split its fuel tank and I couldn’t repair it in time for a road trip to Germany - so I bought a very cheap diesel VW Golf to fulfil that. I’ve now had the golf since July and whilst it’s a great commuter car, I yearn for something interesting and Swedish once more. I’ve been scouring fleabay and Facebook and I have spotted a Volvo and will be viewing it tomorrow. A new thread shall be made as it’s not relevant to this thread anymore. Hopefully tomorrow goes well and I shall be back and active. |

Another thing I forgot to mention; I also had a bit of a mare with the alternator from Classic Swede…It didn’t fit correctly and then had a massive issue with receiving a refund when I returned it.
Big headache that was - some of the Facebook crowd may remember my posts at the time. |
