My parents bought their first Volvo in 1989; they wanted something safe for their new family; six Volvos later, with the '97 T5 on 140k and still pulling like a train, I'm sold, completely.
True they don't always live up to their rep for reliability, although on the whole ours have (six cars, 22 years, has resulted in one roadside breakdown) but for me two things that stand out; Firstly... Cars are driven by people. Therefore the guiding principle behind everything we make at Volvo is and must remain safety. The fact that was said by Volvo's founders, long before the concept of a car being safe had even been thought of my most people says it all. Today their cars are not only very structurally strong but they are making progress with the active safety side of thing as well. No other manufacturer has consistently shown such a commitment. Secondly... I have driven a number of different cars but I have yet to find one that is as comfortable for long drivers, in fact it amazes me that even so called 'premium' manufacturers like BMW etc still make car seats that actually are not that supportive! I've driven many 8-10 hour drives in the V50 and our old V70 and they are great. Also I've never understood this accusation that Volvos are boring to drive; I mean I'm a younger driver and I think on the whole most of them drive very well; the turbo five cylinders are great engines; and having driven the BMW 3-series etc I fail to see the gulf in driving dynamics that the motoring press seem to claim exists between it and say the V50.

I'm new to the brand, so far after a few weeks of ownership I would buy again but will that view remain in a few months?

On our 5th Volvo now. Never had any problems with them. Think it will be Volvos from now on.

Just taken delivery of my first Volvo (XC60 R Design D5).
Previous car was E Class Mercedes, changed to XC60 because needed vehicle to transport big dog. After two weeks and 1000 miles, can't believe how good this vehicle is. The ride is fantastic, comfort of seats so good on long trips, quality of build is so good, far better all round than the Merc! Obviously, don't know about reliability yet, but if that proves ok, I'll definitely be getting another Volvo. |

I don't think so. I have S40 1.6 Diesel, and i has been off the road more in the past 5 months than my old "high mileage" 1.8 D focus was in five years. Sorry to all the loyal owners, but this has been my experiance to date.

Yes Definitely...all cars have faults....The support from the forums and Volvo themselves is better than many other brands get.
