I'm fairly sure that petroleum-based grease should be avoided because it's absorbed by the PU which then expands and loses its performance characteristics.

I got a little tub full of this with the first bushes I bought, it only takes a very thin coating to stop PU bushes from squeaking and it's always there to stick to me like treacle when I brush past it years later. Do you find the Superflex grease just washes out on metal-metal contact or on PU-metal as well?

I used Prothane super grease for poly bushes, you can buy it on ebay. It’s very sticky. Some sales garb: Prothane Super Grease contains versatile water-proof, non-melting Teflon and is formulated to seal out water and to lubricate under the most adverse conditions. It's superior adhesive and extreme pressure qualities, combined with it's urethane compatibility makes it the only one to use.

Got some wheels back from the blasters today

Nice and clean

Now the big problem, I was planning on gloss black but having doubts...

I know silver is the original choice but I'm not that excited about silver...

Colour coded in ivory white ? Same colour as the car will be...

I'm planning on running white walls on them

Thoughts ?

Not really a fan of black wheels or white for that matter. If you are going to go for wide white walls would you consider red? Can look great on vintage American stuff along with a chrome cap and chrome trims. Here is an Amazon with the look...

White should fly. Thinking about that again, there are lots of shades of grey... (title of interesting book), I'll bet you could find the right combo of white/silver and grey which would pick-up the body colour but also all the chrome trim!

I've seen many, many rims painted body colour (including twice myself), and although they can add a touch of class, I would at the very least paint the outer part of the rim silver/grey and the centre body colour.

I love red wheels but thought it was all far too hot rodder....

Ok now red is an option too...

Also started my seats this morning,

Old covers stripped

On getting them down from my loft I had the shock of discovering that someone had been munching on my headrest... Grrrr - he had the whole seat to choose from and chewed the only bit I'm keeping - typical

The picture above has a bit too much red because of the wide steels. If you had caps and trims on normal wheels then you just have the red around the caps and around the trims. Looks good with wide white walls in my opinion of course. Keep in mind the cost of white walls too, not cheap.
Although I like the sound of different coloured rim like James said, that could be nice too.

Well - my approach to this is a little different - but: White walls do not belong on late 1960'ies cars - and even worse on vent. steel wheels.. so, silver is the only right choice.. What might annoy you with silver is, that it often gets "too silver" in colour - silver steel wheels should be gray'ish silver and not with a shiny coat - more correct with a matte/non-glossy finish..

I'm yet to see an Amazon where body colour steels look good, especially the lighter colours. Also regarding CVS's comments about white walls, I also think that red steels would work best on the earlier, non-vented wheels. However, what about a gunmetal / dark metallic grey, so that the hubcaps (and whitewalls if fitted) will be highlighted - even more so if you also have a set of the early stainless wheel trim rings (not the ally GT style ones that clad the whole wheel aside from the hubcap).

If you'd like me to try out some wheel colour options in photoshop if that would help the decision on wheel colour, let me know

I think wide wheels wth standard colour look best, they don't need advertising other than filling the arches properly.
