It's the smells that take you back, to a time, to a place. Always the smells.

I live in the Peak District , (near enough), lots of guarries, folks move into the villages and complain about lorries.

I've been on the underground a few times. It absolutely stinks and its not uncommon when you blow your nose to see black dirt on the tissue.

I know that sounds gross, but its true.

100%, smell is one of the strongest stimulants for memory, very evocative

Don't forget that meeting Euro 5 or even Euro 6 in a lab doesn't mean the same performance in the real world.

There are plenty of studies showing how differently cars perform in the real world...

The Euro3 D5 I had would colour the snow when first started from cold, Euro5 D3 does not colour the snow on the wall behind my car from a cold start so Euro5 is not the full on evil some people would have you believe.

Of course there is some pollution, it's burning diesel but the sky is not falling in Daily Mail style.

On the subject of smells anyone else notice how a Euro 5 diesel after a regen smells like the bread smell piped from Subway ?

Closing down coal fired power stations has also had an impact on the building industry. A product from using coal in the power stations is gypsum which is split into wallboard, cement and agriculture grade. Not that it is a justification for burning coal, consideration must be given to impact beyond the immediate emissions. Those cooling towers are not chimneys, there is a chemical factory inside.

The same with oil, so many products we need are made from oil, without combustion.

The reason the E3 cars used to mark the snow is no DPF. But, in either case all of the atoms in the fuel tank will leave the tailpipe, 1 for 1, but just in different ratios with other atoms from the air….

It’s a case of whatever we do, it’s going to pollute. Consumerism is a polluter and the more we consume… The more we pollute.
