Buy it you only live once! I had a gold V8 VDP and loved it, I was 19 at the time and the insurance was £850 TPF&T-in 1990!

I would, but the problem with a Trabant is: they melt in the rain... Cardboard body

Yeah, that is what I think. Thrus, these SD1s are so extremely rare here. I'd say there are more Volvo P1900 (no, I didn't write that wrong!) on the roads here than SD1s...

The rust doesn't scare me I know worse which turns out better Just have to wait for the weekend (classic car show in Bremen with buyers market - might be one there too! Fingers crossed! ) but I guess it will probably be the car in pictures

I'll bet that engine/exhaust note sounds bloody lovely. Worth it just for that alone.

I actually had a go in a blue 2600 converted to 3.5 manual flavour very, very recently and although the car was not without it's faults, mostly electrical and a saggy headlining, I have to say that it was bloody good fun and that noise!!!!! It's got T & T and comes with a stack of spares including a fibreglass headlining replacement. It needs a couple of 2" patches on the sills but that is about it. The s/s exhaust knocks on the rear axle slightly and the interior needs a damn good clean. he is willing to flog it to me as he wants to get an XJS 5.3/6.0. Tempted, oh so tempted. Cosmic blue - sorry, it just popped into my head.

Go for it!!!!!!! What a project and just imagine the hairs on the back of your neck standing up when yo hear the car running.

Go for it. What fun you will get putting that back together and when you have her up and running what pleasure you will get. Not sure how easy spares are to acquire but I am sure there will be a British SD1 club. Has the car been clocked because the mileage numbers are offset. How much is it going to cost you?
The cars we had were fitted with alloys and Michelin TRX tyres and they would cling to the road surface like anything we had known before.
Please keep us updated and remember the pictures!

The numbers are just before moving to 190.000 km So that is legit... The car would cost around ~£1200 when converted.

I hope that I don't decide on something else, as I look forward to stripping the car down, possibly getting the engine out and getting it to a next to new condition. Though I doubt it will ever be like that. If you were to give it grades like at school (A being brand new condition, F being a rust bucket with no future), I'd class the car as it as a C-/D+, as it is in a rather poor condition but still a good buy. The condition I would hope for would be a solid B or B+

As an estimate, I'd have to invest around £3000 to get all the parts, + ~£1500 for a respray (I could do it myself, but I don't fancy doing all the rubbing and cleaning first ) and on top of that about £500 for a value check and historic number plate (I am hoping for: VER-SD 135H -> the H meaning historic).
